Removal procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the front exhaust pipe. See "Muffler inlet pipe" in this section.

3. Remove the nuts securing the upper flange of the catalytic converter of the 2nd row of cylinders to the exhaust manifold of the 2nd row of cylinders (3 positions).
Important: The nuts and stud may come loose completely due to high exhaust manifold temperatures, but they can be replaced.
4. Remove the catalytic converter for row 2 of cylinders and the gasket.

5. Remove the nuts securing the upper flange of the catalytic converter of the 1st cylinder bank to the exhaust manifold of the 1st cylinder bank (2 positions).
Important: The nuts and stud may come loose completely due to high exhaust manifold temperatures, but they can be replaced.
6. Remove the catalytic converter of the 1st cylinder bank and the gasket.
7. Clean the sealing surfaces on the exhaust pipe and both exhaust manifolds.
8. Check the exhaust downpipe and both exhaust manifolds for holes, damage, loose seams, or other defects that could allow exhaust gases to enter the passenger compartment.

Installation procedure
1. Install the gasket and nuts securing the upper flange of the catalytic converter of the 2nd row of cylinders to the exhaust manifold of the 2nd row of cylinders (3 positions).
Tighten
Tighten the bank 2 catalytic converter upper flange nuts to 40 N·m (30 lb-ft).

2. Install the gasket and nuts securing the upper flange of the catalytic converter of the 1st cylinder bank to the exhaust manifold of the 1st cylinder bank (2 positions).
Tighten
Tighten the Bank 1 catalytic converter upper flange nuts to 40 N·m (30 lb-ft).

3. Install the front exhaust pipe. See "Muffler inlet pipe" in this section.
Tighten
