Replacing the anti-roll bar cushions, removing the bar

Anti-roll bar: strut; barbell; bracket; pillow.

Fastening elements of the stabilizer bar to the subframe (for clarity, shown on a subframe dismantled together with levers)

We replace the rubber cushions that mount the anti-roll bar to the front suspension subframe when the rubber breaks or bulges, as well as when the cushions are significantly worn, causing play in the connection of the parts.

The stabilizer bar fastening elements to the subframe are located in hard-to-reach places - between the subframe and the body. Therefore, the manufacturer recommends replacing the cushions on the subframe removed from the car. In this case, it is necessary to perform many complex operations to dismantle the subframe (see Removal the subframe). In order to reduce the labor intensity of the operations, we suggest not to completely dismantle the subframe, but to lower it a little, providing access to the stabilizer bar attachment points. To do this, place an adjustable stop under the subframe and unscrew the bolts and nuts securing the subframe to the body (see Removal the subframe).

We lower the rear part of the subframe on the stop to a height of approximately 60–70 mm.

We remove the bracket.

We remove the bracket.

We remove the split rubber cushion.

The cut in the cushion should be directed towards the front of the vehicle.

Similarly, we remove the bracket and rubber cushion from the other side of the stabilizer bar.

We remove the anti-roll bar for replacement if it is deformed or broken.

To remove the rod, disconnect the anti-roll bar struts from it (see Removal the anti-roll bar) and remove the brackets that secure the rod to the subframe (see above).

We remove the anti-roll bar.

We mount the anti-roll bar in the reverse order. We install new cushions on the bar and fasten the bar to the subframe and to the stabilizer struts. We tighten the bar bracket mounting bolts and the stabilizer strut ball joint pin mounting nuts to the prescribed torques (see Appendices).
