The car must be in good technical condition during the test run. The oil level in the crankcase must be between the "MAX" and "MIN" marks on the engine oil level indicator.
Before the test run, it is necessary to warm up the engine, before draining the oil temperature should be 80-85°C. Drain the oil on a level surface, set the piston of the first cylinder to TDC, the filler cap should be open.
Drain the oil from the pan within 15 minutes. Determine the weight of the drained oil.
To eliminate the influence of the oil filter anti-drain valve on the measurement result, it is necessary to determine the weight of the oil filter with oil before and after the test, while eliminating the spillage of oil when dismantling the filter.
Enter the weight of the oil poured into the engine crankcase, including the weight of the oil filter with oil, into the report.
After road testing under the conditions specified above, re-determine the oil weight (including weight of oil filter with oil).
Having received the value of total oil consumption, calculate the specific oil consumption in l/1000 km.
If the specific oil consumption value is within the permissible limits, make a note in the service book indicating the protocol number and in the log of rejected claims; issue the second copy of the protocol to the owner.
The oil consumption rate is 0.5 l/1000 km or 0.4% of fuel consumption.
Attention! Fuel and lubricant consumption is given for the summer season (from 20 to 30°C) and a serviceable vehicle after running-in (from 3000 to 15000 km). Operating fuel consumption rates may differ significantly from those given above, as they depend on road and weather conditions, load and the presence of additional equipment.
Attention! The consumption rate is given for warmed-up, run-in vehicle units, when driving in fourth gear at a speed of up to 90 km/h on an asphalt road, without engine braking. Vehicle load — 2 people without cargo and additional luggage rack on the roof.
A control run should be performed in questionable cases in the absence of obvious signs of increased oil consumption: external oil leaks, low compression, smoky exhaust.
The main reasons for increased oil consumption are the following:
- 1. External oil leakage through seals, gaskets, and gaskets.
- 2. The crankcase ventilation system is clogged
- 3. Coking of the slots in the oil scraper rings or grooves in the piston grooves due to the use of non-recommended oil
- 4. Wear or damage to valve stem seals
- 5. Increased wear of valve stems or guide bushings
- 6. Broken piston rings
- 7. Abrasive wear of cylinders, piston rings, pistons, guide bushings (in this case the defect is eliminated at the owner's expense).
- 8. Wear of piston rings (without cylinder wear), excessive thermal clearance of rings, coincidence of ring locks in line, non-adherence of rings to the "mirror" of cylinders, large clearance along the height of rings in piston grooves.
- 9. Scores, scratches, rubbing and other defects on the cylinder "mirror".
