General information about the transfer case (Chevrolet Tahoe 1)

All-wheel drive (4WD) models are equipped with a transfer case, which is mounted at the rear of the transmission. Torque is transmitted from the engine through the transmission and transfer case to the front and rear axles via cardan shafts.

Most models are fitted with New Process 241 or New Venture NV241 gearboxes. Vehicles with a payload of 1 ton and vehicles with dual rear wheels are fitted with Borg Warner 1370, 4401 or 4470 gearboxes. Some 1996 and 1997 vehicles are fitted with NV243 electronically controlled gearboxes (are not covered in this guide), the design of which is not much different from the design of the NV 241 box.

Attention! The type of transfer case and gear ratio are indicated on a metal plate fixed to the case of the box.
