Description
All models described in this manual use hydraulic brake systems with vacuum booster and disc brakes. Front and rear brakes are self-adjusting (they automatically maintain an allowance for wear of the pads).
Hydraulic system
The hydraulic system has two separate circuits. The master cylinder has a split reservoir. If one of the circuits fails, the vehicle is braked by the other circuit. At the same time, the emergency indicator on the dashboard turns on, which indicates a drop in the brake fluid level and failure of the brake system.
Vacuum booster
The booster increases the efficiency of the braking system by creating a vacuum in the intake manifold. The amplifier is located on the bulkhead in the engine compartment, immediately behind the master cylinder.
Parking brake
The parking brake acts on the rear wheels only. Force from the engagement lever located on the centre console is transmitted via cables, which activates a pair of brake shoes located in the drum section of each rear brake disc.
Prevention
After performing procedures related to disassembling elements or disconnecting the hydraulic system, it is necessary to check the functionality and efficiency of the brakes before proceeding with normal operation of the vehicle. Perform the test on a dry, clean and level area to ensure accuracy.
Check the operation of the brakes at different speeds, with smooth and sharp braking. The car must brake evenly, without pulling to one side.
Braking efficiency is directly affected by factors such as the uniformity of the vehicle loading and the correct wheel alignment.
Warning: Do not leave a raised vehicle supported solely by a jack. After loosening or removing fasteners of suspension or steering components, a thorough inspection or necessary replacement should be carried out. When replacing fasteners, it is necessary to ensure that their size and reliability class correspond. During assembly, the tightening torques specified in the specifications must be observed. It is prohibited to heat or straighten deformed suspension and steering components - in this case, replacement is necessary.
