Attention! Handle the Sensor and Diagnostic module (SDM) very carefully during maintenance. Do not hit or shake the SDM. Never connect power to the Airbag Inflator system (SIR) unless the SDM is rigidly connected to the vehicle. In order for the Airbag Inflator system (SIR) to work correctly, all the mounting bolts of the SDM sensor and diagnostic module must be carefully tightened, and the arrow on the SDM must point towards the front of the vehicle. If the SDM module is not firmly attached to the vehicle, the included module may trigger, causing the airbags to release unexpectedly and causing injury.
Important: If a large amount of water has entered the vehicle interior, such as due to leaks, driving through deep water, flooding, or other causes, the Sensor and Diagnostic Module (SDM) and the SDM connector may need to be replaced. When the ignition is turned off, inspect the area around the SDM module, including the mat. If there is significant wetness or signs of past wetness, remove the water, repair water-related damage, and replace the SDM module and SDM connector. Before any of these repairs, the Airbag Inflator system (SIR) must be deactivated. "Disabling the airbag system" in this section.
Removal procedure
1. Turn off the Airbag Inflator system (SIR). "Disabling the airbag system" in this section.

2. Remove the front floor console. See Section 9G, Interior Trim.
3. Remove the connector position retainer attached to the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) connector.
4. Disconnect the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) electrical connector.
5. Remove the SDM module mounting bolts.
6. Remove the SDM module.

Installation procedure
1. Install the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) so that the arrow on the SDM points toward the front of the vehicle.
2. Secure the SDM module with bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the SDM mounting bolts to 10 Nm (7 ft·lbs)
3. Connect the sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) electrical connector.
4. Secure the connector with the clamp.
5. Install the front floor console cover. See Section 9G, Interior Trim.
6. Turn on the Airbag Inflator system (SIR). See "Activating the airbag system" in this section.
7. When replacing the SDM with a new one, perform the BCM reprogramming procedure so that the BCM relearns the identification code of the new SDM.
Attention!
