Removal procedure
1. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.

Attention! The Sensor and Diagnostic Module (SDM) can maintain sufficient voltage to activate the airbags and tensioners for 1 minute after turning off the ignition and removing the fuse. If the airbags and tensioners are not disconnected, do not start maintenance until one minute after the SDM power is disconnected. If the airbags are disconnected, maintenance can be started immediately, without a one-minute waiting period. Failure to temporarily disable the airbag system (SIR) may result in unexpected activation of the airbags, personal injury, and unnecessary maintenance of the airbag system.

2. Set the steering wheel exactly to the center position.
Caution! Always hold the airbag module with the top facing up when handling it. This will allow the airbag to expand if it accidentally deploys. If there is no room for expansion, the module may be thrown toward a person or object and cause injury or damage to the vehicle.
3. Insert a small flat-bladed tool horizontally into the side hole on the steering wheel to release the driver's airbag module.
4. Press the air bag module retainer pin to release the latch that secures the driver air bag module to the steering wheel.
5. Disconnect the driver airbag module connector.
6. Remove the driver's airbag module.
