Oil pan (Chevrolet Captiva 1)

Removal procedure



1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the lower engine shield.

3. Remove the oil filler cap.

4. Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the oil into a suitable container.

5. Remove the exhaust pipe from the catalytic converter. See Section 1G2, Exhaust System - FAM II 2.4D.

6. Remove the oil pan flange retaining screws from the transaxle assembly.

8. Remove the intermediate shaft support bracket bolts from the oil pan and engine block.



9. Remove the intermediate shaft support bracket.

10. For vehicles with permanent all-wheel drive: Remove the transfer case bracket See Section 5D, Transfer Case.

11. Remove the oil pan retaining screws.

12. Remove the oil pan from the engine block by pushing the engine assembly forward.

Cleaning procedure



1. Clean the sealing surface of the oil pan.

2. Clean the sealing surface of the cylinder block.

3. Clean the oil pan retaining screws.

4. Clean the oil pan mounting bolt holes on the cylinder block.

5. Clean the oil pan scraper.

Installation procedure



1. Coat the mating surfaces of the oil pan with sealant.

Important: Install the oil pan 5 minutes after applying the liquid sealant.


2. Install the oil pan onto the cylinder block.

3. Install the oil pan retaining screws.

Tighten

Tighten the oil pan retaining bolts to 10 Nm (89 lbs.in).

4. Install the oil pan flange retaining screws to the transaxle assembly.

Tighten

Tighten the oil pan flange mounting bolts to the gearbox assembly with the final drive to a torque of 50 N·m (37 ft·lbs).

5. Install the gearbox assembly retaining bolt to the oil pan flange.

Tighten

Tighten the gearbox assembly mounting bolt to the oil pan flange to 50 N·m (37 ft·lbs).

Tighten the gearbox assembly mounting bolt to the oil pan flange to 50 N·m (37  ft·lbs).


6. Install the intermediate shaft support bracket.



Tighten

Tighten the intermediate shaft support bracket bolts to 70 Nm (52 ft·lbs).

7. For vehicles with permanent 4WD: Install the transfer case bracket See Section 5D, Transfer Case.

8. Install the exhaust pipe onto the catalytic converter. See Part 1G. Engine exhaust system.

Tighten

Tighten the nuts securing the catalytic converter to the exhaust pipe to a torque of 40 N·m (30 ft·lbs).

Tighten the bolt and nut of the exhaust pipe mounting bracket to 40 N·m (30 ft·lbs).

Tighten the bolt and nut of the exhaust pipe mounting bracket to 40 N·m (30  ft·lbs).


9. Connect the negative battery cable.

10. Install the oil pan drain plug.

Tighten

Tighten the oil pan drain plug to 18 N·m (13 ft·lbs).

11. Install the lower engine shield. Follow section 9N, Frame and Underbody.

12. Fill the crankcase with engine oil.
