Oil pump (Chevrolet Captiva 1)

Removal procedure



1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the timing belt. Follow step "Gas distribution mechanism drive belt" in this section.

3. Remove the rear timing belt cover. Follow step "Rear cover of the drive belt of the gas distribution mechanism" in this section.

4. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor connector.

4. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor connector.


5. Remove the oil pan. Follow step "Oil pan" in this section.

5. Remove the oil pan. Follow step «Oil pan» in this section.


6. Remove the oil pump retaining screws.

7. Carefully separate the oil pump and gasket from the cylinder block and oil pan.

8. Remove the oil pump.

Verification procedure



1. Clean the mating surfaces of the oil pump and cylinder block gaskets.

2. Remove the safety pressure reducing valve screw.

3. Remove the safety pressure reducing valve and spring.

4. Remove the seal between the oil pump and the crankshaft.

5. Remove the rear cover of the oil pump.

6. Clean the housing and all components of the oil pump.

7. Check all oil pump components for signs of wear. Replace worn oil pump parts.

Note: Fill the oil pump cavities with petroleum jelly to ensure the pump is primed with oil and to prevent engine damage.




8. Lubricate all parts of the oil pump with clean engine oil.

9. Apply Loctite 242 to the oil pump rear cover screws and install the cover and screws.

Tighten

Tighten the oil pump rear cover bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft·lbs).

10. Install the pressure relief valve, spring, washer and screw.

Tighten

Tighten the safety pressure reducing valve screw to 30 Nm (22 ft·lbs).

Installation procedure



1. Apply Loctite 242 to the oil pump bolts and room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant to the new oil pump gasket.

2. Install the gasket onto the oil pump and the oil pump onto the cylinder block using bolts.

Tighten

Tighten the oil pump lock bolts to 10 Nm (89 lbs.in).

3. Install a new seal between the oil pump and the crankshaft. Lubricate the sealing lip with a thin layer of grease.

4. Install the oil pan. Follow the step "Oil pan" in this section.

5. Connect the oil pressure sensor connector.

6. Install the rear timing belt cover. Follow step "Rear cover of the drive belt of the gas distribution mechanism" in this section.

7. Connect the negative battery cable.
