2. Supporting the oil pump, loosen the bolt securing the pump to the rear main bearing cover (see photo).

3. Remove the pump together with the drive shaft. Most models have a nylon bushing to center the drive shaft and the drive shaft of the oil pump. This bushing should be on the pump drive shaft (see photo). Otherwise, the bushing may be crushed and its fragments should be removed from the pan. Replace the bushing during assembly.

4. Check the condition of the oil receiver, which should have a very tight fit in the pump body.
5. If a new oil pump is being installed, make sure that the pump drive shaft engages the drive shaft.
6. When assembling, make sure that the slot in the upper part of the shaft fits into the spline on the distributor drive shaft.
7. Tighten the pump mounting bolt to the specified torque.
8. Install the oil pan.
