| Cause of malfunction | Method of elimination |
| The engine gets very hot | |
| Low coolant level in the expansion tank | Top up the coolant |
| Thermostat is faulty (the valve is stuck in the closed position) | Replace Thermostat |
| The water pump is faulty | Check the pump and replace if faulty |
| The radiator core is clogged with dirt and insects | Wash the outside of the radiator core |
| Radiator pipes, hoses and engine cooling jacket are clogged with scale and silt deposits | Flush the cooling system and fill with fresh coolant |
| The electric fan does not turn on due to breakage of electrical circuits of sensors, failure of sensors, relays or a fan motor | Check and restore electrical circuits. If necessary, replace sensors, relays or electric fan in assembly |
| Damage to the valve in the filler cap necks (constantly open, due to which the system is under atmospheric pressure) | Replace the filler cap |
| The engine is overheating, cold air is coming from the heater | |
| Excessive decrease in coolant level fluid due to leakage or damage to the head gasket cylinders, causing the formation of vapor locks in the water jacket engine | Fix the coolant leak. Replace a damaged cylinder head gasket |
| The engine takes a long time to warm up to operating temperature, the thermal regime during movement is unstable | |
| Thermostat is faulty (the valve is stuck in the open position) | Replace Thermostat |
| Constant decrease in coolant level in the expansion tank | |
| Radiator leaking | Replace the radiator |
| The expansion tank is leaking | Replace the expansion tank |
| Coolant leaks through leaky connections of pipes and hoses | Tighten the hose clamps |
| The water pump seal is damaged | Replace the water pump |
| The sealing ring of the water pump housing is damaged | Replace the sealing ring |
| The mounting bolts are not tightened enough cylinder heads (during long periods of cold parking the engine has a coolant leak at the cylinder head joint with the cylinder block, in addition, traces may appear coolant in engine oil) | Tighten the cylinder head mounting bolts cylinders with the required torque (see "Replacing the cylinder head gasket"). Replace the damaged gasket, restore tightness of plugs |
| The heater radiator is leaking | Replace the heater radiator |
