To ensure that the performance characteristics of the left and right shock absorbers do not differ, both shock absorbers should be replaced at the same time.
To avoid damaging the rear brake hoses, do not remove both shock absorbers at the same time while the rear of the vehicle is raised.
The work is shown on the left shock absorber, the right one is removed in the same way.
Opening the trunk lid..

…press the lock on the decorative trim of the trunk…

…and we take it off.

Using a 17 mm wrench, unscrew the upper shock absorber mount nut, holding the shock absorber rod from turning with a special 6 mm wrench (you can use the wrench for the upper mount of the front shock absorbers of Zhiguli cars)

We remove the washer from the rod..

…and the top pillow.

We remove the spacer sleeve.
We hang the wheel on the side of the shock absorber being removed.

Using a 17 mm open-end wrench, unscrew the lower shock absorber mounting bolt and remove the bolt.

We remove the lower end of the shock absorber from the beam bracket and remove the shock absorber.

We remove the lower cushion from the shock absorber rod..

…and the puck.
We replace faulty parts with new ones. Before installing the shock absorber, we put a washer, spacer sleeve and lower cushion on its rod.
We fix the lower end of the shock absorber in the beam bracket, but do not tighten the bolt.
We fully extend the shock absorber rod.
Lowering the car with a jack, we insert the shock absorber rod into the body hole and, having installed the upper cushion and washer, we screw on the rod mounting nut without tightening it.
We lower the car completely onto its wheels.

Tighten the rod mounting nut until the rod protrudes 9 mm above the nut (this will sharply increase the tightening torque).
Then tighten the lower shock absorber mounting bolt to the specified torque (see Application) and install the decorative trim on the trunk.
