Cooling system fan and fan clutch — removal and installation (Chevrolet Tahoe 1)

1. The cooling system fan is replaced if the blades are damaged or deformed. The hydraulic clutch for turning on the fan on a cooled engine or at high engine speeds is disengaged. Signs of a faulty fan clutch are constant noise from the blades, vibrations and leakage of silicone oil.

2. Disconnect the battery from ground. Remove the upper fan cover by unscrewing the bolts.

3. On models from 1996 with V6 and V8 5.0 and 5.7 liter engines, unscrew the coupling mounting nut on the pump shaft; on other models, loosen the coupling mounting nuts to the hub (see photo).





4. Remove the drive belt.

5. Remove the fan assembly with the coupling from the pump shaft.

6. The fan coupling can be removed from the impeller for replacement by unscrewing the nuts.

7. Installation is carried out in reverse order.
