Removal, checking and installation rear suspension springs (Chevrolet Lumina 1)

Removal



1. Loosen the rear wheel nuts, lift the rear of the vehicle and securely support it on stands.

2. Raise the bridge with a jack (see illustration 9.2) and remove the rear wheels.

3. Separate the shock absorbers (see section 9).

4. Carefully lower the jack, supporting the axle until all pressure is relieved, and remove the spring.

Examination



5. Check the shims at the top and bottom ends of each coil spring. If the gaskets are cracked, replace them.

6. Check the springs for cracks or scratches. If you notice anything like this, replace the spring.

Installation



7. To install the coil springs, make sure they are in the correct position, then carefully jack up the rear axle.

8. Install the shock absorbers (see section 9).
