Note: The Chevrolet Cruze uses a parking brake cable system with an automatic tensioning system. The parking brake cables can be released and reset as needed, for example to service the disc brakes or the parking brake system.
1. Raise and fully lower the parking brake lever several times.
2. Make sure the parking brake lever is fully released.
3. Turn on the ignition. Make sure that the brake system malfunction lamp is not on.

4. If the brake system malfunction indicator light is on, make sure that the parking brake lever is fully lowered to the stop and that there is no slack in the parking brake cables,
5. Place the vehicle on a jack or lift it on a lift.

6. With the parking brake lever fully released, check the parking brake levers on the rear calipers. The levers should rest on the stops in the caliper housings. If the levers are not resting on the stops, they may be binding.
7. Raise and lower the parking brake lever all the way 3-5 times to allow the cable tensioner to take up the slack in the parking brake cables.
8. Raise the parking brake lever all the way.
9. Try to turn the rear wheels; the wheels must be braked.
10. Fully release the parking brake lever.
11. Make sure the parking brake is released by turning the wheels. The wheels should turn freely without dragging.
12. Lower the vehicle from the lift or jack.
