Your vehicle has an electromechanical parking brake. The electromechanical parking brake switch is located on the center console. The electromechanical parking brake can be used even when the ignition is switched off. To avoid discharging the battery, it is not recommended to use the electromechanical parking brake too often with the engine off.
The system is equipped with a parking brake status indicator and a parking brake failure indicator.
See Brake fault indicator. In the event of insufficient voltage in the on-board network, it will not be possible to engage or disengage the electromechanical parking brake. Before leaving the vehicle, check that the parking brake status indicator is on, indicating that the parking brake is applied.
Applying the electromechanical parking brake
The electromechanical parking brake can be applied at any time after the vehicle has come to a complete stop. To do this, briefly pull up the key of its switch. When the parking brake is fully applied, the parking brake status indicator will light up. While the parking brake is being applied, the status indicator will flash until the parking brake is fully applied. If the indicator does not light up or does not stop flashing, you should contact a service station for vehicle maintenance. Do not operate the vehicle if the parking brake status indicator light is flashing continuously. Contact a service station. See Brake fault indicator.
If you try to apply the electromechanical parking brake while driving, a warning buzzer will sound. The vehicle will slow down as long as the switch remains in the pulled out position. If the switch is released during braking, the parking brake will be released. If you continue to pull the switch until the vehicle comes to a complete stop, the electromechanical parking brake will remain on. If the parking brake status indicator flashes continuously, the parking brake is not fully engaged or released, or there is a problem with the electromechanical parking brake. If the indicator flashes continuously, disengage and re-apply the electromechanical parking brake. If the blinking of the indicator does not stop, the operation of the car should be suspended. Contact a service station. If the parking brake warning light is on, this indicates that the EPB control unit has detected an error in another system and is operating in reduced functions mode. To apply the electromechanical parking brake when the warning light is on, pull up and hold the parking brake switch. If the warning light is on, it may take longer for the electromechanical parking brake to fully engage.
Continue to hold the switch button pulled out until the parking brake status indicator lights up steadily. If the parking brake warning light is on, contact a workshop for assistance.
If the electromechanical parking brake cannot be applied, the rear wheels of the vehicle should be blocked to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
Releasing the electromechanical parking brake
To release the electromechanical parking brake, turn the ignition key to the ON/START position, depress the service brake pedal, and briefly press the parking brake switch. If you attempt to release the electromechanical parking brake without depressing the service brake pedal, a warning chime will sound and the indicator light will illuminate "Press the brake pedal" . If the parking brake status indicator is off, the electromechanical parking brake is disabled.
If the malfunction indicator light is on, this indicates that the electromechanical parking brake control unit has detected an error in another system and the operation of the parking brake will be limited. To release the electromechanical parking brake when the indicator light is on, press and hold the parking brake switch.
If the indicator is on, the electromechanical parking brake may take longer to release. Keep holding the switch button pulled out until the parking brake status indicator turns off. If the indicator is on, contact a workshop for assistance.
Note: Driving with the parking brake applied can cause the brake system to overheat and cause premature wear or damage to parts. Before driving off, make sure that the parking brake is fully released and the brake system warning light is off.
Automatic release of the electromechanical parking brake
The electromechanical parking brake is released automatically when the vehicle is moving, when the vehicle is in forward or reverse gear and when starting off. Avoid sudden starts when the electromechanical parking brake is applied. This will help extend the life of your brake pads.
Warning: If the parking brake is applied incorrectly, the vehicle may roll unexpectedly. Contact the service station for adjustment.
Attention: It is forbidden to move the car with the parking brake on. This can cause the parking brake to overheat or wear out prematurely. In this case, the brake mechanisms may need to be replaced, and damage to other parts of the car may also occur.
Caution: Do not park or move the vehicle over combustible materials.
If such materials come into contact with hot parts of the exhaust system from below the vehicle, a fire may result.
