Parking brake

Your vehicle has an electromechanical parking brake. The electromechanical parking brake switch is located on the center console. The electromechanical parking brake can be used even when the ignition is off. To avoid discharging the battery, it is not recommended to use the electromechanical parking brake too often when the engine is off.

The system is equipped with a parking brake status indicator and a parking brake malfunction indicator.

Cm. Brake system malfunction indicator. If the voltage in the vehicle's electrical system is insufficient, it will be impossible to engage or disengage the electromechanical parking brake. Before leaving the vehicle, make sure that the parking brake status indicator is on, indicating that the parking brake is engaged.

Engaging the electromechanical parking brake

The electromechanical parking brake can be engaged at any time after the vehicle has come to a complete stop. To do this, briefly pull up on its switch. Once the parking brake is fully engaged, the parking brake status indicator will light up . When the parking brake is applied, the status indicator will flash until the brake is fully applied. If the indicator does not light or stops flashing, take the vehicle to a service station for servicing. Do not operate the vehicle if the parking brake status indicator is constantly flashing. Take the vehicle to a service station. See Brake system malfunction indicator.

If you attempt to apply the electromechanical parking brake while driving, a warning buzzer will sound. The vehicle will slow down as long as the switch remains in the pulled-out position. If you release the switch during braking, the parking brake will be released. If you continue to pull the switch until the vehicle comes to a complete stop, the electromechanical parking brake will remain applied. If the parking brake status indicator flashes continuously, the parking brake is not fully applied or released, or there is a fault with the electromechanical parking brake. If the indicator light flashes continuously, switch the electromechanical parking brake off and then try to apply it again. If the indicator light does not stop flashing, do not use the vehicle. Contact a workshop. If the parking brake warning light comes on, this indicates that the EPB control unit has detected a fault in another system and is operating in reduced functionality mode. To apply the electromechanical parking brake when the indicator light comes on, pull up and hold the parking brake switch. It may take longer for the electromechanical parking brake to fully apply when the indicator light comes on.

Continue to hold the switch in the pulled out position until the parking brake status indicator lights up does not light up continuously. If the parking brake warning light comes on, contact a service station for assistance.

If the electromechanical parking brake fails to engage, the rear wheels of the vehicle should be blocked to prevent the vehicle from rolling away.

Disengaging the electromechanical parking brake

To release the electromechanical parking brake, turn the ignition switch to the ON/START position, depress the service brake pedal and briefly press the parking brake switch button. If you attempt to release the electromechanical parking brake without depressing the service brake pedal, a warning gong will sound and the "Press the brake pedal" indicator will light . If the parking brake status indicator does not light, the electromechanical parking brake is disengaged.

If the malfunction indicator lamp illuminates, it indicates that the electromechanical parking brake control unit has detected an error in another system and the parking brake function will be limited. To release the electromechanical parking brake when the indicator lamp illuminates, press and hold the parking brake switch button.

It may take longer for the electric parking brake to disengage when the indicator is illuminated. Continue to hold the switch in the extended position until the parking brake status indicator is illuminated does not go out. If the indicator is on, contact a service station for assistance.

Note: Driving with the parking brake on may cause the brake system to overheat and cause premature wear or damage to its components. Before driving off, make sure the parking brake is completely released and the brake system malfunction indicator is off.

Automatic release of the electromechanical parking brake

The electromechanical parking brake is released automatically when the vehicle is moving, when forward or reverse gear is engaged, and when starting off. Avoid starting off abruptly when the electromechanical parking brake is engaged. This will help extend the life of the brake linings.

Warning: If the parking brake is not applied correctly, the vehicle may roll unexpectedly. Contact a service station for adjustment.

Warning: Do not drive the vehicle with the parking brake engaged. This may cause the parking brake to overheat or wear out prematurely. In this case, the brakes may need to be replaced, and other parts of the vehicle may be damaged.

Caution: Do not park or move the vehicle over flammable materials.

If such materials come into contact with hot parts of the exhaust system underneath the vehicle, a fire may occur.
