The condition of the steering gear cover must be carefully monitored, since if it is not tight, dirt gets into the mechanism cavity, which can cause the rack to jam.
We dismantle the steering mechanism (see Removal the steering gear).

Remove the right bracket and the rubber support for the steering gear housing.

Using a 19 mm spanner, unscrew the two union nuts securing the tubes to the steering gear housing and move the tubes to the side.

Using side cutters, cut the lock of the clamp securing the protective cover and remove the clamp.
We remove the other clamp in the same way.

Having moved the protective cover from the right side of the case, we extract the split spacer sleeve from underneath it and remove it.

We remove the protective cover from the steering gear housing.
We put a new cover on the steering gear housing.
To fix the rack, slider and steering gear cover in the correct position, we insert the bolts for fastening the inner ends of the steering rods into the threaded holes of the rack through the holes in the cover and slider.
We move the cover along the crankcase to the right so that the split spacer sleeve is installed in the mounting groove made on the crankcase.
We secure the cover with new clamps.
Further assembly of the steering mechanism is carried out in the reverse order.
We install the steering mechanism on the car.
Remove air from the hydraulic system (see Bleeding the power steering system).
