Removal and installation parking brake cables (Chevrolet Lumina 1)

Front cable



1. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on stands.

2. Loosen the equalizer nut (adjusting nut) and separate the front cable from the connector and equalizer.

3. Remove the clamps from the frame and remove the cable from the wire bracket.

4. Remove the left panel located under the instrument panel to gain access to the parking brake pedal mechanism.

5. Remove the clamp from the end of the cable at the lever (see illustration) and push the cable and sheath through the bracket while pressing on the tip.

6. Remove the cable housing from the equalizer and disconnect the cable.

7. Installation is carried out in reverse order. The cable adjustment operation is described in section 10.

Rear cable



8. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on stands.

9. Loosen the equalizer and disconnect the rear cable from the equalizer.

10. Disconnect the cable at the frame bracket by pressing the lock with pliers (see illustration).

11. Remove the brake drum and brake shoes as described in section 5. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the lever.

12. Using pliers, press the cable housing retainer and pull the cable and housing through the brake shield.

13. Installation is carried out in reverse order. Don't forget to adjust the cable as described in section 10.
