Note: This procedure only applies to vehicles not equipped with ABS.
1. The brake booster does not require maintenance, except for periodic inspection of the vacuum hoses and housing. Early models have a filter that needs to be checked periodically and replaced if clogged or damaged.
2. Disassembling the amplifier requires special tools and is usually not done at home. If there is a fault, it is recommended to use a new or factory-refurbished amplifier.
3. Remove the nuts securing the master cylinder to the brake booster and carefully push the master cylinder forward until it is clear of the studs. Be careful not to bend or pinch the brake lines.
4. Disconnect the vacuum hose where it connects to the brake booster.
5. Disconnect the brake booster rod from the brake pedal.
6. Remove the nuts securing the brake booster to the engine compartment bulkhead.
7. Carefully remove the brake booster and take it out of the engine compartment.
8. To install, place the brake booster in its original location and tighten the mounting nuts. Connect the brake pedal.
9. Install the brake master cylinder and connect the vacuum hose.
10. Before operating the vehicle, carefully check the operation of the brakes.
