Replacing the parking brake cables (Chevrolet Aveo T300)

The parking brake drive consists of three cables: a front one with an equalizer and two separate rear ones. Moreover, the rear cables, in turn, consist of two parts each, connected by couplings. Replace the parking brake drive cables if they are excessively stretched (impossibility of adjusting the parking brake) and mechanical damage to the cable cores or its sheath.

For replacement front drive cable to release the parking brake, do the following.

You will need a high socket head or a 10 mm wrench.

2. Completely loosen the tension of the front parking brake cable by unscrewing the adjusting nut to the very end of the threaded end of the cable.

3. Remove the parking brake lever (see "Removal and installation the parking brake lever").

4. Completely unscrew the adjusting nut (shown in the photo by an arrow) from the threaded end of the cable and remove the front parking brake cable from the lever guide.

5. Install the front parking brake cable and removed parts in the reverse order of removal.

6. Adjust the parking brake system (see "Adjusting the parking brake drive").

For replacement rear drive cable to release the parking brake, do the following.

You will need: a 13 mm socket head, a wheel nut wrench, and pliers.

1. Engage 1st gear in a manual transmission or set the automatic transmission selector lever to the "P" (parking) position and place chocks under the front wheels.

3. Completely loosen the tension of the front parking brake cable by unscrewing the adjusting nut to the very end of the threaded end of the cable.

4. Raise the rear wheel and support the rear of the vehicle on the side where the rear cable is being replaced. Remove the rear wheel.

5. Remove the brake drum (see "Removal and installation the brake drum").

17. Disconnect the front end of the cable from the equalizer by pulling it out of the lower slot in the equalizer.

18. Remove the front cable housing seal from the opening in the base of the vehicle and remove it by pulling it out of the opening and underneath the vehicle.

19. Similarly, remove the rear parking brake cable on the right side.

20. Install the rear parking brake cables in the reverse order of removal.

21. Adjust the parking brake system (see "Adjusting the parking brake drive").
