Remove the lever assembly for replacement if the toothed sector or pawl is worn or damaged.

1. In the vehicle interior, remove the floor tunnel trim (see "Removal and installation the floor tunnel lining").

2. Completely loosen the tension of the front parking brake cable by unscrewing the adjusting nut to the very end of the threaded end of the cable.

3. Unscrew the four nuts securing the parking brake lever to the base of the body.

NOTE: This is how the parking brake lever mounting nuts are located to the body base.

4. After removing the lever bracket from the studs, lift it...

5. ...press the locking tab on the wiring harness connector of the parking brake indicator switch...

6. ...and disconnect the block from the switch.

7. Raise the parking brake actuator lever until the end of the front actuator cable comes out of the equalizer slot...

8. ... remove the tip from the equalizer and remove the lever assembly with the cable.

9. If it is necessary to replace the parking brake indicator light switch, unscrew the mounting screw...

10. ...and remove the switch.

11. Before installing on the vehicle, lubricate the toothed sector of the lever with consistent grease.
12. Install the lever in the reverse order of removal and adjust the parking brake system (see "Adjusting the parking brake drive").
