Ignition Switch and Cylinder Replacement (Chevrolet Trailblazer 1)

Warning: The vehicles described in this manual are equipped with a Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), also known as an air bag system. Before carrying out work in the area where the elements of this system are located, it is necessary to disconnect its power supply, since accidental deployment of the airbags can result in serious injury (see subsection 28).


1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the steering column cover and the parking mode lock switch (see chapter 11 and subsection 8).

3. To remove the lock cylinder, insert the key and turn it clockwise to the Start position. Press the locking pin and pull the cylinder and key out of the ignition switch (see illustration).

4. If necessary, pull the anti-theft system unit off the lock cylinder sleeve.

5. Disconnect one multi-pin and two single-pin connectors, then remove the switch (see illustrations).

6. When installing the cylinder, it is necessary to align the retainer with the groove in the casing. After this, push the cylinder in until its stopper locks into place.

7. The rest of the assembly procedure is carried out in the reverse order of removal.
