Coolant Temperature Sensor (ECT) — Replacement (Chevrolet Trailblazer 1)

1. The coolant temperature sensor (ECT) is a thermistor - its resistance changes depending on the temperature. The PCM receives a signal whose pulse value is inversely proportional to the sensor resistance. The resistance changes inversely with the coolant temperature.

Replacement



Warning: Allow the engine to cool completely before performing this procedure.


2. Drain the cooling system fluid (see chapter 1).

3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor wiring harness (see illustration).

4. Remove the generator (see chapter 5).

5. Carefully unscrew the sensor from the engine (see illustration).

6. If the threads of the new sensor are not coated with sealant, wrap them with Teflon tape to prevent coolant leakage.

7. Installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal. Fill the cooling system with liquid (see chapter 1).
