Air Conditioner Condenser — Removal and Installation (Chevrolet Captiva 1)

Removal procedure



1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Discharge and recover the refrigerant. See "Procedures for discharging, refilling oil, vacuuming and charging the air conditioning system" in this section.

3. Remove the radiator. See section 1D, "Engine Cooling".

4. Unscrew the nut securing the outlet hose connection block to the condenser.

5. Remove the hose from the condenser.

6. Unscrew the nut securing the high pressure tube to the condenser connection block.

7. Remove the tube from the condenser.

8. Unscrew the upper fastening nuts of the capacitor.

9. Tilt the condenser back, away from the radiator support brackets.

10. Lift the capacitor and remove it from the engine compartment.

11. Cap all exposed tubes and fittings to prevent contamination.

Installation procedure



1. Make sure the rubber mounts on the capacitor are in place.

2. Install the condenser on the vehicle. The lower support shock absorbers should fit into the corresponding holes.

3. Move the capacitor forward into the support holes of the radiator.

4. Tighten the upper condenser mounting nuts with washers.

Tighten the upper condenser mounting nuts to 4 Nm (35 lbs.in).

5. Install a new O-ring onto the high pressure tube to condenser block fitting.

6. Install the high pressure pipe on the condenser.

7. Tighten the nut securing the high pressure tube to the condenser connection block.

Tighten

Tighten the nut securing the high pressure pipe to the condenser connection block with a torque of 14 N·m (10 ft·lbs).

8. Install a new O-ring onto the outlet hose retaining block fitting.

9. Install the discharge hose fitting into the condenser.

10. Tighten the fastening nut of the discharge hose fastening block to the condenser on the condenser connection block.

Tighten

Tighten the nut securing the outlet hose connection block to the condenser with a torque of 16 N·m (12 lb-ft).

11. Install the radiator. See section 1D, "Engine Cooling".



12. Evacuate and charge the air conditioning system. See "Procedures for discharging, refilling oil, vacuuming and charging the air conditioning system" in this section.

13. Connect the negative battery cable.

14. Operate the HVAC controls to ensure that the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems are operating properly.
