Removal procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Discharge and recover the refrigerant. See "Procedures for discharging, refilling oil, vacuuming and charging the air conditioning system" in this section.
3. Unscrew the fastening nut of the outlet hose.
4. Lift the discharge hose retaining block and suction hose off the compressor.

5. Raise and secure the vehicle.
6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor.
7. Remove the drive belt and idler pulley. See section 6B, "Power Steering Pump".
8. Remove the cooling fan. See section 1D, "Engine Cooling".
9. Unscrew the front and rear bolts securing the compressor to the bracket.
10. Remove the compressor.
11. Drain the oil from the compressor into a reservoir. Measure the amount of drained oil. Then dispose of the used oil.

Installation procedure
1. Add oil to the new compressor. Use exactly the same amount of oil that was drained from the old compressor.
2. Install the compressor.
3. Tighten the bolts securing the compressor to the bracket.
Tighten
Tighten the front compressor mounting bolts to the bracket to 23 N·m (17 ft·lbs) (FAM II 2.4D).
Tighten the rear compressor mounting bolts to the bracket to 23 Nm (17 ft·lbs) (FAM II 2.4D).
Tighten the front compressor mounting bolts to the bracket to 50 Nm (37 ft·lbs) (HFV6).
Tighten the front compressor mounting bolts to the bracket to 23 N·m (17 ft·lbs) (VM2.0).
4. Install the idler pulley and accessory drive belt. See section 6B, "Power Steering Pump".
5. Install the cooling fan into place. See section 1D, "Engine Cooling".

6. Install new sealing washers on the suction and discharge hose mounts.
7. Connect the electrical connector to the compressor.
8. Lower the car.
9. Place the suction hose into the designated slot in the compressor and install the discharge hose retaining block to secure it in place. Hold it all together while tightening the retaining nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut securing the outlet hose connection block to the compressor with a torque of 16 N·m (12 ft·lbs).
10. Connect the negative battery cable.
11. Evacuate and charge the air conditioning system. See "Procedures for discharging, refilling oil, vacuuming and charging the air conditioning system" in this section.
