This measuring device can be used to perform two types of measurements: direct measurements at individual points and measurements calculated on a horizontal plane (baseline), parallel to the underbody. Point measurements are typically taken on steering and engine bay suspension components and simply require the vertical pointers to be aligned evenly.
When taking measurements on a horizontal plane, the vertical markers must be set as indicated for each point being measured.
The measurement holes are measured to the center of the holes and flush with the adjacent metal surface, unless otherwise specified. To confirm the dimensional accuracy of the underbody, it is recommended to check the diagonal dimensions to the cross-member of the body on both sides.
Floor panel insulators
The floor panel insulators are designed to withstand the high floor panel temperatures that occur when using a catalytic converter in the exhaust system. Therefore, when repairing a vehicle, it is important that any removed or disturbed insulators are reinstalled in their original order and locations. Also, if an insulator needs to be replaced, use only the insulators specified for that location on the floor panel.
When repairing or replacing internal insulators, follow these instructions.
- Install the insulators in their original location and sequence. Connect the parts end-to-end to avoid gaps or overlaps.
- If it is necessary to replace the insulator, use only the specified insulating materials.
- Use the original piece to determine the amount of replacement material and as a template for cutting and fitting the new piece onto the floor panel.
- When installing the insulator, do not enlarge cutouts or holes that are used to attach interior components such as the instrument panel or floor console.
- Route the body crossmember wiring for the interior parts over the floor panel insulators. Clamp it in its original position.
- Do not apply spray-on sound deadeners or finishing adhesives to the top of the floor panel in the area directly above the catalytic converter or muffler.
Any repair or replacement of the insulator must be made to the same thickness, size and location as was originally present in the vehicle.
