General structure of the body
This vehicle has a unified body, which includes integrated front and rear longitudinal frame members.
The lower control arms of the front suspension are bolted and supported by supports (calipers), one on the left and one on the right. The front lower control arm calipers are attached to the underbody with three bolts in two places. The engine is bolted to the front longitudinal member. The suspension struts must be the correct size relative to the rest of the underbody to maintain the specified strut and caster/camber angles.
Because individual underbody components play a direct role in the strength of the vehicle as a whole, it is important to use proper welding techniques during repair. Underbody components must be properly sealed and rust-proofed whenever the original seal and rust-proofing is compromised during body repair. When rust-proofing critical underbody components, use an air-drying primer such as chromate or similar. Combination primer/filler types are not recommended.
Engine mudguards
Engine splash shields are molded plastic pieces that serve as protective shields for the underside of the engine. The shields help protect the engine from small rocks, gravel, and other debris that would otherwise fall onto the engine under normal operating conditions.
