Steering knuckle, front wheel hub (Chevrolet Captiva 1)

Removal procedure



1. Remove the wheel.

2. Remove the hub nut.

2. Remove the hub nut.


3. Remove the outer tie rod. See Section 6C. Power Steering.

4. Disconnect the ball joint of the control arm. See the section in this part "Front suspension arm".

5. Remove the brake caliper. Cm. Part 4D. Front brakes.

6. Remove the stop screw from the brake disc. Remove the disc.

7. Remove the nuts and bolts securing the front suspension strut to the steering knuckle.

8. Remove the steering knuckle and hub assembly.

9. Remove the hub bolts from the steering knuckle and separate the hub and steering knuckle.

Installation procedure



1. Install the hub-to-steering knuckle bolts.

Tighten

Tighten the hub-to-steering knuckle mounting bolts to a torque of 115 Nm (85 ft·lbs).

2. Install the stop screw and brake disc.

Tighten

Tighten the stop screw until a torque of 5 Nm is reached (3.5 lb-ft).

3. Install the brake caliper. Cm. Part 4D. Front brakes.

4. Install the bolts and nuts securing the steering knuckle to the strut.

Tighten

Tighten the nuts and bolts securing the steering knuckle to the strut until a torque of 180 N·m is reached (133 ft·lbs).

5. Install the control arm ball joint to steering knuckle nut and cotter pin. See section in this section "Front suspension arm".

6. Install the outer tie rod end mounting nut to the steering knuckle.



Tighten

Tighten the outer tie rod mounting nut to a torque of 50 Nm (37 ft·lbs).

7. Install the hub mounting nut onto the wheel drive axle.

Tighten

Tighten the hub mounting nut on the wheel drive axle shaft until a torque of 205 N·m is reached (157 ft·lbs).
