Removal and installation the rocker arm (Chevrolet Captiva 1)

Removal procedure



1. Remove the camshafts from the corresponding cylinder head. See "Camshaft" in this section.

Attention! If the rocker arms are to be used again, they must be installed in their original locations.


Note: When removing, record the location of each rocker arm.


2. Remove the rocker arm (1) from the cylinder head (2).

Cleaning and inspection



1. Inspect the rocker arm roller (1) and check the following:
  • are there any bald spots?,
  • are there too many scratches or chipping,
  • is the roller rotation difficult?.
  • Inspect the area where the rocker arm contacts the valve (2).
  • Inspect the area (3) where the rocker arm rests on the stationary hydraulic valve clearance compensator.

2. Replace the rocker arm if necessary.

Installation procedure



1. Generously lubricate the bearing recess (1), roller (2) and valve cutout (3) of the rocker arms with regular camshaft/tappet pre-lube or equivalent.

Attention!

  • The rocker arm (1) must be positioned straight at the end of the valve so that the roller contacts the camshaft lobe over its entire width.
  • If the rocker arms are to be used again, they must be installed in their original locations.

2. Install the rocker arm onto the end of the valve and onto the stationary hydraulic valve clearance compensator. The end of the rocker arm with the round head should be on the compensator, and the flat end should be on the end of the valve.

3. Clean the camshaft journals and bearings with a clean, lint-free cloth.
