Oil pump assembly (Chevrolet Captiva 1)

Removal procedure



1. Remove the primary timing chain and crankshaft sprocket. See "Camshaft Drive Chain Components" in this section.

2. Remove the three bolts (1) securing the oil pump (2).

3. Remove the oil pump assembly.

Disassembly



Attention!

There are no serviceable parts in the oil pump. The oil pump should only be disassembled when troubleshooting problems related to the lubrication system. A disassembled oil pump cannot be reused and should be replaced.

The lower primary timing chain guide is not serviced separately and is an integral part of the oil pump assembly. If it is removed from the oil pump, both the guide and the pump must be replaced.


1. Remove the two bolts (1) securing the lower guide (2) of the primary camshaft drive chain and remove the guide.

2. Remove the seven bolts (2) securing the cover to the oil pump housing (1) and remove the cover.

3. Remove the internal gear wheel (1).

4. Remove the outer gear wheel (2).

5. Remove the retainer (1) holding the cover (2) of the pressure reducing valve.

6. Remove the cover, remove the spring (3) and plunger (4) from the oil pump housing.

Clear



1. Clean the oil pump components with a non-corrosive solvent.

2. Dry the oil pump components with compressed air.

Inspection



1. Inspect the oil pump housing for damage.

3. Inspect the internal drive gear for damage. If damage is found on the internal surface, be sure to inspect the crankshaft as well.

5. Inspect the oil pump relief valve components for dirt or damage.

6. Inspect the lower primary timing chain guide for damage. If the lower primary timing chain guide needs to be replaced, the oil pump assembly must be replaced as the lower guide is not serviceable separately.

7. If there is dirt or damage inside the oil pump, then all engine components must be checked.

Assembly



Caution: The disassembled oil pump must be replaced because there are no serviceable components inside the oil pump.


Installation procedure



1. Align the oil pump gear with the crankshaft flats and install the oil pump assembly onto the cylinder block.

2. Align the pump housing (2) with the mounting holes on the cylinder block.

3. Install the oil pump bolt (1).

Tighten

Tighten the oil pump mounting bolt to 23 N·m (17 lb-ft).
