Rear Drive Unit — Removal and Installation (Chevrolet Captiva 1)

Removal procedure



1. The ignition key is in the OFF position.

2. Remove the propeller shaft and axle shafts from the rear drive unit. See "Propeller Shaft and axle shafts" in this section.

3. Remove the muffler. See section 1G3, "Engine Exhaust System - HFV6 3.2L".

4. Remove the bolt and spare tire mounting bracket.

5. Remove the front/rear rear drive unit mounting bolts.

Important: Support the rear drive unit while it is disconnected from the body panel.

6. Lower the support slowly and carefully to avoid damaging the controller wiring harness.

7. Remove the clutch controller (CCM) connector.

8. Remove the rear drive unit from the vehicle.

Assembly procedure



1. Slowly raise the rear drive unit onto the support and connect the clutch control module (CCM) connector.

2. Install the front/rear rear drive unit mounting bolts.

Tighten

Tighten the front rear drive unit mounting bolts to 117 N·m (86 ft·lbs).

Tighten the rear drive unit rear mounting bolts to 180 Nm (133 ft·lbs).

Tighten the rear drive unit rear mounting bolts to 180 Nm (133  ft·lbs).


3. Install the propeller shaft and axle shafts to the rear drive unit flange. See "Propeller Shaft and axle shafts" in this section.

5. Install the spare tire and secure it with the bolt and bracket.

6. Check the rear wheel alignment. See section 2B, "Adjusting Wheel Alignment".
