Exhaust gas recirculation system (Chevrolet Cruze J300)

            0

The exhaust gas recirculation system serves to reduce exhaust toxicity (by reducing the formation of nitrogen oxides). At high combustion temperatures of the fuel-air mixture, a large amount of nitrogen oxides is formed in the combustion chamber. Through the recirculation system, part of the exhaust gases are returned to the engine cylinders for afterburning, which reduces the concentration of the fresh fuel-air mixture and, consequently, the temperature in the combustion chamber.

The main element of the system is the recirculation valve installed in the rear part of the cylinder head, which at large throttle opening angles passes exhaust gases from the exhaust manifold through the channels in the cylinder head and through the exhaust gas supply pipe into the intake tract for combustion. The electromagnetic valve is controlled by the engine control unit.

The exhaust gas recirculation system does not operate under the following conditions:
  • low engine coolant temperature;
  • the engine is idling:
  • the engine runs at full throttle.

Failure of the recirculation system valves leads to increased toxicity of exhaust gases. The valve is non-separable, so when it fails, it is replaced as an assembly.
