Note. To achieve high quality painting, it is necessary to use primers, enamels, putties, solvents, hardeners from the same manufacturer. This will avoid painting defects associated with the compatibility of paint layers.
Wash the body with water and use a spatula or brush to remove the old peeling coating from the defective areas.
Wet-sand the surfaces to be painted with sandpaper of grain size P 80-120, then P 180-220. If the coating is thin and has no mechanical damage, sand the surface down to the epoxy primer of the factory paint. In case of significant corrosion, as well as surfaces previously painted with nitro enamel, clean down to the metal.
Wash the body with water, blow with compressed air and dry.
Degrease the surfaces to be painted with white spirit or BR-1 gasoline solvent and coat the welded seams and joints of the replaced parts with "plastisol D-4A" sealing mastic. Remove excess mastic with a rag soaked in white spirit.
Insulate surfaces that are not to be painted with thick paper and adhesive tape.
Apply a primer to the areas of the surface that have been stripped down to the metal using a spray gun and allow to dry for 5 minutes.
The grade of solvent, viscosity of the primer, temperature, hardener and pressure during spraying should be specified in the recommendations of the material manufacturer.
Spray the secondary primer onto the surfaces coated with the primary primer and onto the replaced body parts and allow to dry.
Cool the body, wet sand with sandpaper of grain size P 280-360, gradually moving to a finer grain size, wash with water, blow with compressed air and dry.
If necessary, fill in uneven areas with putty, dry the body and sand the filled surfaces with sandpaper. Wash the body, blow with compressed air and dry.
Isolate the surfaces not to be painted with thick paper, adhesive tape and install the body in the paint booth.
Degrease the surfaces to be painted with white spirit.
Apply two coats of enamel with a spray gun, waiting 7-10 minutes between coats, to the interior surfaces to be painted, door openings, end surfaces of doors, engine compartment, and luggage compartment.
Also, with an intermediate holding time of 7-10 minutes, apply three layers of enamel to the outer surfaces of the body.
Dry the coating at the temperature recommended by the enamel manufacturer and cool naturally.
Note. Painting the body is the final stage in the labor-intensive work process of many body repair specialists and this imposes a special responsibility on it. Considering that painting requires the use of special equipment, certain skills in working with paints and varnishes, it is best to do it at specialized enterprises.
If you need to remove the old complex coating, use the SP-7 remover. Apply it with a brush 2-3 times depending on the thickness of the paint coating.
The coating softening time with the wash is 30-40 minutes. Remove the softened coating with a brush or spatula.
Wipe the surfaces with white spirit to remove any remaining paint stripper, rinse thoroughly with water and dry the body.
