Headlights

The headlight wiring is protected by a reverse current relay in the lamp switch. An overload in the electrical circuit will cause the lamps to flicker and, in some cases, may turn off. If this happens, check the lamp wiring immediately.

Windshield wipers

The wiper motor is protected by a relay and fuse. If the motor overheats due to heavy snow, etc., the wipers will stop until the motor cools down. Although the circuit is protected from electrical overload, heavy snow can damage the wiper assemblies. Always clear ice and snow from the windshield before using the wipers.

Electric window drives and other consumers

Reverse current relays in the fuse panel protect the power windows and other power consumers. When the current is too high, the relays open and close. This protects the circuits until the current returns to normal and the problem is solved.

Fuses and relays

Fuses and relays

The electrical wiring in your vehicle is protected from short circuits by a combination of fuses, reverse current relays and thermal relays.

Look at the silver strip inside the fuse. If the strip is broken or melted, replace the fuse. Make sure the bad and new fuses have identical ratings.

If you have a problem on the road and don't have a spare fuse, you can "borrow" one that has the same amp rating. Just take a fuse that you can live without for a long time, such as a radio or cigarette lighter, if it has the same amp rating. Replace it as soon as possible.

Fuse box on the instrument panel

The fuse box access cover is located on the edge of the instrument panel on the driver's side. Remove the cover to gain access to the fuse box.

You can remove the fuse using a special tool located on the inside surface of the access door.

To remove a fuse, if you do not have a fuse removal tool, pinch the ends of the fuse between your thumb and forefinger and pull it out.

You may have spare fuses on the inside of the access door. You can use these as replacements if they are the correct amp rating.
