In accordance with US Federal law, the GM nameplate must be located on the central part of the instrument panel, next to the vehicle's VIN identification number. The purpose of this law is to reduce cases of car theft, help in the search for stolen cars and restore damaged parts of the car as a result of its theft.
Plates are always attached to the inside of the vehicle. If the part on which the plate was located has been replaced, the plate should bear the "R" symbol, the manufacturer's logo, and the "DOT" symbol.
The plate must not be painted over, must be protected from corrosion and must not be subject to mechanical impacts. Failure to comply with these requirements is a violation of the Federal Law and may indicate that you are not the legal owner of this vehicle and it was stolen.
