Check Power Steering Fluid (Every 3,000 miles or 3 months) (Chevrolet Lumina 1)

1. Unlike conventional steering, the power steering system contains hydraulic fluid that needs to be replenished after a certain period of time.

3. For checking, the front wheels must be straight and the engine must be turned off.

4. Wipe the tank cap with a clean cloth. This will help prevent foreign material from entering the tank during inspection.

5. Remove the plug and check the fluid temperature at the end of the dipstick with your finger.

6. Wipe off the hydraulic fluid with a clean cloth, insert the plug and remove it again and check the fluid level. If the hydraulic fluid is hot to the touch, the level should be at the "HOT" (Hot) mark (see illustration). If the fluid feels cold to the touch, the level should be at the "COLD" mark. Please note that on some models, the "FULL NOT" and "COLD" marks are located at opposite ends of the dipstick. Do not allow the hydraulic fluid level to fall below the "ADD" mark.

7. If it is necessary to top up the level, pour the liquid recommended by the technical specifications directly into the tank; to prevent leaks, use a funnel.
