Ignition coil
Engine with a working volume of 3.8 liters:
- Primary winding resistance: 0.3-0.6 Ohm
- Secondary winding resistance: 5,000-6,500 Ohm
Note: On vehicles equipped with the Delco Loc II audio system, be sure to disengage the audio system lockout device before performing any work that requires disconnecting the battery cables.
Ignition systems
The 3.1 L engines covered in this manual are equipped with a high - power ignition (HEI) system, while the 3.8 L engines are equipped with a direct ignition system (without distributor) ignition (DIS).
Battery charging circuit
The charging circuit includes a generator with a built-in voltage regulator and a battery. Their combined operation provides electrical energy to the ignition system, lighting devices and all additional devices.
There are three types of generators used in the vehicles discussed in this manual. Early models of cars are equipped with a CS 130 generator (current 100 A), and later models with a CS 130 generator (current 105 A) with a rear-mounted air conditioning system, and a CS 144 (current 140 A, engine 3.8 l). All types of generators have a standard pulley with a fan.
Engine starting system
The electrical circuit of the starting system consists of the battery, starter, ignition switch and other related electrical equipment. The starter has a switching relay mounted directly on the housing.
