2. Check the terminals for deformation, bolts and corrosion. The appearance of white flaky deposits under the insulation near the wire terminals is a sign of corrosion; wire with such deposits should be replaced.
3. When changing wires, always disconnect the negative battery cable first and connect it last, otherwise the battery may be short-circuited by the tool used to loosen the clamps on the terminals. Even when replacing only the positive wire, first disconnect the wire from the negative battery terminal.
4. Disconnect the wires to be replaced from the battery terminals, after which, having found their opposite ends, disconnect them from the starter and "masses". For proper installation of new wires, remember the wiring diagram of the old wires.
5. If you need to replace one or both wires, take them with you when buying new ones, so as not to make a mistake in choosing. The wires can be quite easily identified by a number of characteristic features: positive, as a rule, are enclosed in red insulation, have a larger cross section and a larger diameter hole in the terminal worn on the positive terminal of the battery; the negative wires are black insulated, thinner in cross section and have a smaller diameter hole in the terminal.
6. Clean the threads on the starter relay contact and "mass", to remove any traces of corrosion. To prevent corrosion of the contacts, apply a thin layer of battery lead grease to the threads of the contacts.
7. Connect the wire to the contact on the starter relay or to "mass" and tighten the nut firmly.
8. Before connecting a new cable to the battery, make sure that it reaches the battery terminal without interference.
9. First connect the wire going to the positive battery terminal, and then the one that goes to the negative.
