Camshaft Position Sensor (Chevrolet Orlando 1)

            0

The camshaft position sensor is designed to generate a signal by which the electronic control unit (ECU) of the engine management system determines the engine operating cycles (cylinder firing order). Sometimes this sensor is called a phase sensor. The sensor's operating principle is based on the Hall effect. There is a timing disk on the camshaft (ring with projections). When a protrusion passes by the sensor's sensitive element, the sensor sends an electrical signal to the ECU.

The engine is equipped with two sensors: intake camshaft position sensor 1 and exhaust camshaft position sensor 2.

The sensors are located on the left wall of the cylinder head.

Replacing the sensor

The need to replace the camshaft position sensor should be determined during the engine management system diagnostics.

The work is shown using the example of replacing the exhaust camshaft position sensor; the camshaft position sensor for the camshaft valves is removed in a similar way.

1. We prepare the car for maintenance and repair.

2. Disconnect the wire terminal from the negative terminal of the battery.

3. Move the retainer lock back...

4. Check the condition of the wiring harness terminals. If oxides are found on them, we treat the terminals with a cleaning agent and protector for electrical contacts.

5. Using the TORX E10 key, unscrew the mounting bolt and remove the sensor from the hole.

The sensor connection is sealed with a rubber ring; each time the sensor is removed, the ring must be replaced.

6. Install the sensor in reverse order. Before installation, apply a thin layer of motor oil to the sealing ring. Tighten the sensor mounting bolt to a torque of 6 Nm.
