Disassembling the rear output drive housing (Chevrolet Captiva 1)

Necessary equipment


  • DT-48146 Press stand
  • J-08614-A Toothed Flange Mandrel and Puller
  • J-29873 Nozzle Wrench (30mm)

Disassembly procedure



1. Install the J-08614-A toothed flange puller and mandrel onto the rear secondary shaft flange (2).

2. Using a ratchet wrench with a 30 mm socket or J-29873, remove the transfer case rear output drive gear nut (1).

3. Using a press and press stand DT-48146, remove the secondary shaft (5) from the crankcase.

4. Remove the transfer case rear secondary shaft bearing assembly (3) and the transfer case rear secondary shaft bearing separator (4).



5. Remove the seal (7) from the rear secondary shaft of the transfer case and discard it.

6. Remove the oil deflector (6) of the rear secondary shaft of the transfer case only if damaged. To remove it, use a chisel and hammer
