Cleaning and checking the transfer case (Chevrolet Captiva 1)

Verification procedure



Important:

  • Inspect all components and subcomponents and perform any repairs necessary to correct damage. If damage cannot be corrected, replace the component or subcomponent as directed.
  • Wash the left and right transfer case in cleaning solvent and dry with a stream of air.

Important: Check for cracks, damaged areas or other damage. The transfer case assembly must be replaced if damage is found.

Important: Remove minor scratches or dents by lightly sanding.


2. Check the bore (2) of the transfer case rear output drive shaft housing.

Important: Remove minor scratches or dents with a soft whetstone.


3. Visually inspect the sealing surface (3) of the box.



Important: Replace the transfer case assembly if the bearing rotates quickly or if cracks are found.


4. Check the races (4) of the transfer case bearings.

Important: Repair any damage to the threads.


5. Check the holes (5) for the through bolts of the transfer case.

6. Check the holes (6) for the mounting pins of the transfer case halves.
