Clutch Pedal Position Sensor (Chevrolet Orlando 1)

            0

A vehicle with a manual transmission is equipped with a clutch pedal position sensor. It is a potentiometer, that is, a resistor with variable resistance, and is installed under the instrument panel on the clutch pedal bracket. In this case, the sensor lever is engaged with the clutch pedal.

The sensor is structurally similar to the brake pedal position sensor. The output signal from the sensor is analog and goes to the electronic control unit. The clutch pedal position data is used by the engine management system.

Checking and replacing the sensor

Warning. Do not remove the clutch pedal position sensor unless necessary, as installing it will require performing a sensor calibration procedure using a special diagnostic tool. The purpose of this operation is to register in the ECU memory the values of the sensor signal when the clutch pedal is pressed all the way down. Sensor calibration will also be required if the engine control unit is replaced.

To perform the work you will need a multimeter and a special diagnostic device (scanner), which is described in the section "Engine Management System Diagnostics". We carry out the work in the following order:

1. We prepare the car for maintenance and repair.

2. For ease of work, remove the instrument panel trim (the operation is shown when removing the brake pedal position sensor).

3. Press the lock and disconnect the wiring harness connector from the sensor. Using a 7 mm wrench, unscrew bolt 2 securing the sensor.

4. Disengage the sensor lever from the clutch pedal lever and remove the sensor.

5. We check the sensor with a multimeter (the operation is performed in the same way as checking the brake pedal position sensor).

6. Install the sensor in reverse order. Bolt tightening torque 3 Nm.

8. Install the instrument panel trim and secure it with bolts.

Note: After installing the sensor, it is necessary to calibrate it. A special diagnostic tool is required to perform this procedure. If it is not available, you should contact a specialized service station. In case of self-calibration of the brake pedal position sensor, it is necessary to: connect the diagnostic device to the diagnostic connector block, as when diagnosing the engine management system, and be sure to delete the fault codes. Then, following the instructions for the device, you need to enter the Clutch Pedal Position Learn subsection (clutch pedal position calibration) and then follow the instructions on the device display. It is important that when performing the procedure, after pressing the clutch pedal once, do not release it and do not change the pressure applied until the ignition is turned on. Otherwise, the calibration must be performed again from the beginning.
