Below are some of the alternative recovery methods:
- Installation of individual spare parts
If the inspection determines that the cylinder block and most engine components are in working order, purchasing and installing individual replacement parts may be the most cost-effective method of restoration. You should carefully inspect the block, crankshaft and elements of the connecting rod and piston group. Even with a slight degree of block wear, the cylinder walls should be machined.
- Installation of the repair crankshaft
Using this method, a pre-processed crankshaft complete with connecting rod and piston group is installed. In this case, the pistons must be pre-assembled with connecting rods. Piston rings and bearings are included in the repair kit. These kits are available for standard and overhaul size cylinders.
- Acquisition «truncated block»
«Truncated block» consists of a cylinder block in which a crankshaft with pistons and connecting rods is installed. New bearings were also installed and the corresponding clearances were adjusted. Available head (And) cylinder block, camshaft (s), valve mechanism parts and attachments are attached to «truncated block». This method involves some minor machining, but may not be necessary.
- Acquisition «long block»
«Long block» comprises «short block» complete with oil pump, sump, cylinder heads, valve covers, camshaft (ami), valve mechanism parts, sprockets, drive chain and its casing. This block has all new bearings, seals and gaskets installed. With this method, all that remains is to install the engine manifolds and attachments.
- Engine replacement
Since an engine overhaul returns the performance characteristics of a new power unit, purchasing a replacement engine is often the most effective and cost-effective alternative to overhauling an existing engine. As a rule, a warranty is given for reconditioned motors, but before purchasing such an engine, it is recommended to diagnose it using special equipment. It is preferable to test the replacement engine on a vehicle or bench to ensure that it operates smoothly and that there is no knocking or other unusual noise.
Before purchasing spare parts, evaluate the suitability of an alternative to engine overhaul by consulting with experienced specialists.
