Master Cylinder Assembly — Removal and Installation (Chevrolet Captiva 1)

Removal procedure



1. Remove the bolts securing the brake fluid reservoir to the master cylinder and remove the reservoir from the master cylinder.

2. Remove the brake line fittings from the master cylinder.

3. Close the open ends of the brake pipes and the reservoir to prevent brake fluid from spilling and contaminating the environment.

4. Loosen the nuts securing the master cylinder to the vacuum booster.

5. Remove the master cylinder and drain the brake fluid.

Installation procedure



1. Install the master cylinder onto the vacuum booster.

Tighten

Tighten the master cylinder mounting nuts to 13 Nm (115 lbs.in).

2. Open all closed ends.

3. Install the brake pipe fittings onto the master cylinder.

Tighten

Tighten the brake pipe fittings to 16 N·m (12 lb-ft).

4. Install the brake fluid reservoir mounting pins to the master cylinder.

5. Add brake fluid.

6. Check for leaks.

7. Recheck the brake fluid level.

8. Bleed the brake system. See Part 4A. Hydraulic brakes.
