Exhaust manifold (Chevrolet Captiva 1)

Removal procedure



1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Disconnect the front heated oxygen sensor connector.

2. Disconnect the front heated oxygen sensor connector.


3. Loosen the retaining bolts of the exhaust manifold heat shield.

4. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.

4. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield.


5. Unscrew the nuts securing the catalytic converter to the exhaust pipe.

6. Remove the bolt and nut from the exhaust pipe mounting bracket.

6. Remove the bolt and nut from the exhaust pipe mounting bracket.


7. Remove the exhaust manifold retaining nuts in the sequence shown.



8. Remove the exhaust manifold.

9. Remove the exhaust manifold gasket.

10. Clean the sealing surfaces of the exhaust manifold and cylinder head.

Installation procedure



1. Install a new exhaust manifold gasket.

2. Install the exhaust manifold.

3. Install the exhaust manifold retaining nuts and tighten them in the sequence shown below.

Tighten

Tighten the exhaust manifold lock nuts to 22 N·m (16 ft·lbs).

Tighten the exhaust manifold lock nuts to 22 N·m (16  ft·lbs).


4. Install the exhaust pipe onto the catalytic converter. See Part 1G. Engine exhaust system.

Tighten

Tighten the nuts securing the catalytic converter to the exhaust pipe to a torque of 40 N·m (30 ft·lbs).

Tighten the bolt and nut of the exhaust pipe mounting bracket to 40 N·m (30 ft·lbs).

Tighten the bolt and nut of the exhaust pipe mounting bracket to 40 N·m (30  ft·lbs).


5. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.



Tighten

Tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield screws to 15 Nm (11 ft·lbs).

Tighten the exhaust manifold heat shield screws to 15 Nm (11  ft·lbs).


6. Connect the front heated oxygen sensor electrical connector.

7. Connect the negative battery cable.
