Crankshaft position sensor (Chevrolet Captiva 1)

Removal procedure



1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the front exhaust pipe. See Part 1G3, Exhaust System - HFV6 3.2L.

3. Remove the transfer case. See Part 5D. "Transfer case".

4. Disconnect the wiring harness connector (1) from the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor (2).

4. Disconnect the wiring harness connector (1) from the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor (2).


Caution: Before removing, clean the area around the CKP sensor to prevent dirt from getting into the engine.


5. Remove the CKP sensor mounting screw (1).

6. To remove the CKP sensor (2), first twist it to release it, then pull it away from the engine block.

Installation procedure



1. Lubricate the CKP sensor O-ring with clean engine oil.

2. Install the CKP sensor by pressing it down so that the sealing ring is pressed against the engine block.



Caution: Before tightening the mounting screw to the specified torque, check that the CKP sensor is fully inserted.


3. Install the CKP sensor mounting screw.

Tighten

Tighten the crankshaft position sensor bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb-in).

4. Connect the CKP sensor connector.
