Ignition coil (Chevrolet Captiva 1)

Removal procedure



1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the decorative engine cover. See Part 1C2, "Engine Mechanical - HFV6 3.2L".

Note: If the upper intake manifold has been removed, plug the holes in the lower manifold to prevent dirt and foreign particles from entering.


3. If necessary, remove the upper intake manifold assembly. See Part 1C2, "Engine Mechanical - HFV6 3.2L".

4. Using a flat-blade screwdriver, move the connector retaining clip (1) in the direction of the arrow.

5. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the ignition coil (2).

Caution: Before removing, clean the area around the ignition coil to prevent dirt from getting into the engine.


6. Completely loosen the screw (1) securing the ignition coil (2) to the timing cover.

Note: The ignition coil screws are captive. Do not attempt to remove the screws from the ignition coil.


7. To remove the ignition coil, first twist it to release it, then lift it up.

Caution! Do not attempt to separate the ignition coil cap (1) from the ignition coil with a sharp object, such as a knife. A sharp object may damage the ignition coil insulator (2).




8. Remove the cap from the ignition coil with your thumb.

Note: Be careful not to pull out the spring (3) when removing the cap. To make it easier to remove the cap, you can separate the edge of the cap from the insulator with a blunt instrument and inject a release agent between the cap and the coil insulator.


9. Remove the spring from the ignition coil insulator.

Installation procedure



1. Install the spring into the recess of the insulator.

2. Lubricate the insulator (1) of the ignition coil with talcum powder.

3. Install the ignition coil cap, making sure it is completely seated on the top of the insulator.

4. Lubricate the rubber seal (1) of the ignition coil with clean engine oil, and the inside of the cap (2) of the ignition coil with talcum powder.



5. Install the ignition coil by pressing it so that the rubber seal enters the cylinder head cover.

Caution: Before tightening the mounting screw to the specified torque, check that the ignition coil is fully inserted.


6. Tighten the ignition coil mounting screw.
