Disassembling the secondary shaft (Chevrolet Captiva 1)

Disassembly procedure



1. Press out the 4th gear using the Gear and Bearing Separator Plate, DT-48234 and a hydraulic press.

Important: The 4th gear driven gear is pressed in very tightly.

2. Remove the 3rd gear driven gear using the gear and bearing separator plate, DT-48234 and a hydraulic press.

3. Remove the 5th gear pinion (1) and two needle bearings (2).

4. Remove the bearing race using the gear and bearing separator plate, DT-48234 and a hydraulic press.

Important: Do not come into contact with the thrust ring under the reverse gear.

5. Remove the following components in one assembly:
  • Bearing ring (1).
  • 5th gear locking ring (2).
  • 5th gear/reverse synchronizer assembly (3).
  • Reverse gear locking ring (4).
  • Reverse gear (5).
  • Needle bearing (6).

6. Remove the bearing race and thrust ring using the gear and bearing separator plate, DT-48234 and a hydraulic press.

Important: Before pressing out the bearing race and thrust washer, make sure that the pinion and bearing separator plate does not contact the pinion.
