Engine oil - SG, SF/CC or SF/CD engine oil
Viscosity - See chart
Recommended engine oil viscosity for various temperature ranges
To facilitate starting the engine and in order to save fuel, fill in the oil with the lowest viscosity for a given temperature range.
Automatic transmission - Automatic transmission fluid Dexron type II, HE, or III ATF.
Manual transmission:
- With aluminum alloy crankcase (gearbox type Normal duty) - GM 1052931 oil or equivalent
- With cast iron crankcase (gearbox type Heavy duty), 4 speed - API 80W-90 GL-5 oil
- With cast iron crankcase (gearbox type Heavy duty), 5 speed - Castrol Syntorq GL4 oil or equivalent
Reducer - API 80W-90 GL-5 oil
Transfer case - Dexron II, HE or III ATF
Undercarriage Lubrication - NLGI N2 Grease
Coolant - Antifreeze based on ethylene glycol mixed with distilled water
Brake fluid - Delco Supreme 11 or DOT3
Clutch Hydraulic - Delco Supreme 11 or DOT3
Power Steering Fluid - GM fluid or equivalent
Front wheel bearing lubrication (rear wheel drive models) — grease based on molybdenum NLGI N 2

Engine 5.0L, 5.7L V8:
- 1987-1995 - VMT
- From 1996 and later - Not regulated, ignition timing control from the processor unit
Engine 7.4L V8:
- 1987-1995 - 4°BTDC
- Since 1996 - Not adjustable, ignition timing control from the processor unit
Spark plug type and electrode gap:
- 1987-1995 - AC CR43TS or equivalent, 0.9mm
- Since 1996 - AC 41-932 or equivalent, 1.52 mm
(when replacing spark plugs, follow the data indicated on the engine compartment plate)
