Recommended lubricants and fluids
Engine oil - SG, SF/CC or SF/CD engine oil
Viscosity - See chart
Recommended engine oil viscosity in different temperature ranges
To facilitate engine starting and to save fuel, use oil with the lowest viscosity for the given temperature range.
Automatic Transmission - Dexron type II, HE, or III ATF Automatic Transmission Fluid.
Manual transmission:
- With aluminum alloy crankcase (gearbox type Normal duty) - oil GM 1052931 or equivalent
- With cast iron crankcase (gearbox type Heavy duty), 4-speed - API 80W-90 GL-5 oil
- With cast iron crankcase (gearbox type Heavy duty), 5 speed - Castrol Syntorq GL4 oil or equivalent
Gearbox - API 80W-90 GL-5 oil
Transfer case - Dexron II, HE or III ATF
Lubrication of chassis components - NLGI N₂ grease
Coolant - Ethylene glycol based antifreeze mixed with distilled water
Brake fluid - Delco Supreme 11 or DOT3
Clutch hydraulics - Delco Supreme 11 or DOT3
Power Steering Fluid - GM Fluid or Equivalent
Lubrication of front wheel bearings (rear wheel drive models) - molybdenum based grease NLGI N 2
