Under normal driving conditions the temperature should not exceed 100°C (210°F), but under heavy engine load (long-term driving uphill or towing a trailer or caravan) the coolant temperature may rise to 122°C (250°F).
If the gauge needle shows 125°C (260°F) while the engine is running, this indicates that the engine is overheating. In this case, stop the vehicle immediately in a safe place and perform the procedures described in the subsection "Engine Overheating" in the "Engine Problems While Driving" section of this chapter. Eliminate the cause of overheating.
